I purchased several takeout trays for Christmas appetizers - the International cheese platter and the vegetarian dips and spreads platter, and was unimpressed with both. First of all, be prepared to replate the platters at home, as they come prepared cheap plastic trays covered with a bed of wilting romaine. The cheeses and breads on the cheese platter tasted good, but nothing extraordinary. There were also bunches of grapes, which were fresh. However, the vegetarian platter looked positively unappetizing. Of everything on it, I only put out the Kalamata olive dip and the bruschetta topping. Why did the bruschetta have cut up celery in it?? The cream cheese spinach dip was a tasteless hard ball that I couldn't even spread with a knife. The hummus was dried out, and I've had better marinated artichokes from the grocery store. The asparagus and vegetables were mushy and looked disgusting. I also purchased a pound of baccala salad for our seven fish dinner. The baccala was so hard and chewy that my family complained. How embarrassing! I had high hopes for this place based on previous reviews and word of mouth, but never again!

A weekly stop for my boyfriend and I after a farmers market trip to get some delicious goodies and prepared foods. Will end up spending a small fortune but so worth it.

This is hands down my favorite food shop/stop in all of West Chester. The food is fantastic! Great cheese selection, olives, charcuterie, prepared meals, deli, coffees & teas, baked goods, and hot foods (shall I go on?). The staff is super friendly and always helpful. So then whats with the three stars? simply put, order inaccuracy and poor systems/management. Knowing well how busy they always are, I generally call ahead for hot foods and sandwiches. It breaks my heart to report to you all that I have lost faith in their ability to fulfill orders accurately and consistently. From "hold the cheese" due to allergies, to completely missing sandwiches they have dropped the ball more times than I can count, and 8 out of the last 10 times I've ordered. No issues when ordering in person, so seemingly poor communication/systems behind the counter on their end. While others complain about pricing, I believe it to be perfectly appropriate given the quality standards they uphold. You get what you pay for, and I'm more than happy to spend my money here.

Over priced high end food market. Sibling of the classic Ardmore market. Prepared food is ok but very expensive. The deli is great or bad depending on waits on you. Sal? The older guy is great . The rotating college students suck. I had one guy slice me bacon and then cut cheese on the same slicer without cleaning it. Really.? I had a fit. He looked at me like I was crazy. Good cheese selection. Homemade pastas are quality. For a flush WC mom it s go to place.

Where do I begin? Carlino's is the heaven of italian markets. They have everything! All of it is homemade and locally sourced. They have an espresso bar, a bakery, a deli, a massive prepared food section, and the best homemade tortellini and sauce that I have ever had. Plus, the prices are reasonable. My mother joked that she was in danger of never cooking again! I was only in town for a few days, and I ended up going there almost every day that I was home. I would recommend Carlino's to anyone and everyone.

I've had catered events with Carlino's several times. Everything on their menu has been incredible. The pizza is awesome. The fish was delicious. I haven't had anything that wasn't awesome from there.

This is an Italian: Grocery Market Place Restaurant Bakery Cafe Gift Shop A great place to grab a meatball sub or slice of pizza for lunch, get a lavender cappuccino, a fresh cannoli. Get yourself a pre-made meat lasagna and pasta salad for dinner or pick up fresh pasta and other ingredients for an Italian meal from scratch. A bit pricey. Always busy. Not a lot of seating for lunch. But, this place is incredible. TIP: When you walk through the entrance you will be in the market, keep heading back and you will find the deli and a place to order hot foods. Everything (salad to go, deli, frozen gnocchi, etc) is paid for on the way out at 2 registers or the barrista station. It is kind of confusing at first, but the staff is very friendly.

You just can't go wrong with Carlino's. First of all the service is out of this world. The people are so darn friendly and helpful. The bakery is to die for! The flourless chocolate cake is heaven on earth. The homemade pastas are phenomenal. I recommend the pumpkin ravioli! And the homemade bread...always fresh, delicious and inexpensive! I wish I lived closer!

Great stuff with a great new cheese monger (monster). Terrific recommendations from Scott, we cannot wait to make fresh mozzarella on a Saturday.

  • Jan F.

Wow! What a great place! All kinds of specialty foods! Fruits, veggies, olives, homemade soup, beautiful cheeses, coffees and on it goes! Then there's the wonderful homemade entrees, lasagna, eggplant parm, meatballs, etc. There were also great looking meats! I had a great 4 seasons sandwich on a luscious roll. It had broccoli rabe, artichokes, peppers, and cheese that was mouth watering. Mom had a chicken salad sandwich that she said was delicious. The desserts looked scrumptious but we resisted. We'll go back!

Honestly this place is an incredible one stop shop for everything. I can't even count how many charcuterie and cheese plates I have constructed from this place but the only thing that stops this from being a five star is the price. Not only do they have great cheese selection but I definitely encourage you to look for their prepared foods sections who can give you an amazing meal in a pinch.

it's as if your local italian neighborhood market met wegmans. You've got a great selection of italian cheeses, meats, prepared foods and delicacies. If you can't get to the Italian Market in center city, you can probably find it here.

  • Scott K.

The people here are extremely nice. Every single employee greets you with a smile. The food was good albeit a little pricey but not by much. Definitely worth visiting.

  • Jessica C.

Oh Em Ge. This place is AMAZING! I had no idea from the outside what this place had to offer. After finally going inside, I was pleasantly surprised by their fresh, healthy selections. The to-go options (lasagna caught my eye especially) looked to be of very high quality and were reasonably priced. I enjoyed a walnut sticky bun and enjoyed a sample of the mint mojito tea. If I worked on this street, this would definitely be my GO TO for lunch!

Let me put it this way - I've been here three times this week. The please is full of delicious homemade Italian foods and ingredients. So far my favorite thing to get here is their hot sandwich Uncle Franks Pride. The sandwich is bursting with flavor but if you are not of a fan of spicy food beware of the long hots! The hot Italian sausage was okay but I have had better elsewhere. Another thing I like is that they also have homemade baguettes and other Italian breads. The reason for the 4 instead 5 stars is that they are expensive. I understand that quality costs more but there is no excuse for certain items to be so high (gummy worms were $4 for an example). Overall I highly recommend checking this place out if you're in the area.

    (4)
  • Frank S.

Eh, Ok at best. Ordered the "Uncle Frank" which was supposed to be a hot roast pork with gravy. Turns out its cold shredded pork, tossed onto a grill, fried, and tossed into a grilled seeded roll. It cost $8 and that was too much for what i got. For out here, i guess thats a good sandwich. But, there is no way that gets served at the original store, they'd be shut down. Its been so long since i've been there, i forgot why, oops, now i remember. Save your money.

So let's start with the negatives: it's hard to find parking and it's pricey. Aside for those issues, Carlino's does everything right! Great food, all prepared in house. Good choices of products at there market, deli, bakery, etc. They also cater and have a lot if different options to help with throwing a party. Every time I go in I find something else I want to try. If it weren't so expensive, I would buy a lot more from them!

  • Peter H.

Good take out offerings but pricey. Plenty of variety for a small town market. Everything is fresh. Friendly and efficient employees.

  • Ashley C.

We just started going here a couple days ago for lunch. So far, we have gone two days in a row! Carlino's is so freakin' good!!!!! First time I got soup and a square of the margherita pizza (amazing and only $9 total because I got two sparking waters too). Today I got the classic meatball sandwich. AMAZING. Best meatballs I've ever had in my life. AND, it's not any more expensive than anywhere else around here for lunch would be. Everyone who works here is super nice and super friendly. I got asked multiple times from multiple people if I needed any help finding anything. Great food, great service. No complaints here!

  • Michael F.

Incredible market, luncheon, pizza, butcher counter...wow. Five stars alone for the variety. For me... four stars for the sandwiches and tomato pie I've had. Excellent stuff. I've got smaller, speciality places that earn my fifth star, but for a one stop shop you absolutely cannot beat Carlinos.

    (4)
  • Karen T.

Homemade pasta, sauce, and meatballs were very good but pricey. Loved the Italian Rum cake in the bakery! Freshly squeezed orange juice, large selection of cheeses, bread made daily. How can you go wrong?

  • Matt M.

The best since those wonderful cheese guys downtown. If you are in Ardmore or WC and you have a craving for phenomenal cheeses, wonderful salumi, mouthwatering bread and pizzas, amazing pastas and sauces then this is the place for you. The knowledgeable staff will guide you trough your selections to create the tastes you are looking for. Fresh veg and produce as well as everything you need to create that wonderful meal., picnic, cheese tray etc. And the cannolis are great too.

  • Brian M.

The meatball sandwich needs a bib! Just really a great shop overall, with lots to choose. Perfect for a jury duty lunch.

  • Steven H.

They serve my favorite sandwich named "Uncle franks pride" with roast pork, sharp provolone, spicy long hot peppers cooked together on the flat top so the cheese melts in with the pork. They make sure the juices from the roast pork and peppers soak into the crusty Italian roll. "Unctuous"is the best way to describe it. I'd prefer this sandwich to the best cheese steak any day. Wash it down with an interesting selection of sodas. Plus all the staff are very friendly and outdoor seating is available.

  • John H.

This place is incredible. It has so much more to offer than you'd think from the outside. Amazing food, deli, salad and dessert options but what really makes this place is the employees. These days you never see friendly, outgoing and knowledgeable younger employees (high school-college aged kids) and that's exactly what you get here. I've never had anything short of excellent customer service here to the point where I will go out of my way to shop at Carlino's vs. making a more convenient stop elsewhere.

Back again for lunch yesterday. If you have never been to this place and you live in W. Chester (or Ardmore), stop whatever it is you're doing and go now. Carlino's not only has fresh produce and freshly baked breads, they also have a full deli, prepared foods (salads, entrees, sauces, grated/shredded cheeses) ready to take away, pizza, tomato pie, sandwiches (hot and cold hoagies) made to order, and a full salad bar. On top of that they have fresh and dried pastas and a full host of other Italian goodies to drool over. I once again had my tomato pie (giant slice for $2.80) and small salad ($2.50). What a great lunch combo...completely satisfied for under $6. I'll say it again...you can't beat that! This is a great place to grab and go, but indoor/outdoor seating is available if you can't wait to get that big slice of tomato pie into your belly.

Over priced for mass produced food. I don't get why anyone pays the prices, we tried.

  • Mark M.

Very pricey for day-to-day grocery but has some interesting items that are worth a trip. e.g., the biskoff spread. I have not seen that anywhere!

  • Michael K.

What can I say! This place is awesome! I always stop here for the vast selection of cheese. The knowledgeable staff has never steered me wrong with their suggestions. They also have several meals ready to eat (MRE) available to choose from. You can eat at the store, out front of the store, or take home to heat and eat. It doesn't get much better than this..

  • Joanne M.

Mama Carliono's Lasagne is sooooo good. Everything here is good, little pricey but absolutely worth it.

I'm a regular. This place is a little pricey but worth it. Anytime I go to a party or have people over, I stop at Carlino's first. Make sure to get their fresh baked bread, rosemary is the best. I've ordered a vanilla cream cake for a baby shower last year and it was the best vanilla cake I've ever had.

Carlino's has been a fantastic addition to the West Chester food scene since moving here. Fantastic Italian market. If you can't find something you like here, your to finicky!

    I. Love. Carlinos. It's like a grocery store on steroids and there's nothing that I've tried that wasn't delicious and there's plenty of ingredients to drool over if you're an avid home cook. Including produce, meats, cheeses, pastas, spices, sauces, coffees, and chocolate. There are take-home meals that I have never tried, but I have tried the grill in the back, which is delicious. The same guy is always there ( or so it seems) and he serves up generous, artery clogging portion of delicious breakfasts and lunches. There are also deserts and a coffee bar, but there are better places to get your coffee... although their lattes are very well made and good if you need a one-stop shop. The stuff there isn't exactly a steal, but it's definitely worth what you pay for. CONCLUSION: good eats, guilty pleasure shopping quality: excellent (but dont get the belgian waffles. not worth it) price: you get what you pay for at carlinos

I consider myself very lucky that I work a couple doors down from Carlino's. This place is hands down amazing. Love that you can get a quick sandwich or piece of pizza, or you can get a full plated meal of chicken and veggies, baked ziti, etc. I've had my eye on their ravioli section...the turkey and cranberry ravioli sounds delicious. Also the dessert counter, it is so hard to walk by there and not buy something every time. Go to Carlino's, you will not be disappointed.

I got the Italian Rum cake for when I hosted my entire family for New Year's Day dinner. They are STILL talking about it. I have been told that it is now mandatory for all future special occasions. GLADLY!!!

Very huge selection of Italian foods, pastries and health foods. They have a deli counter, bakery counter and a coffee and tea counter as well. I love the feel of this store. I stopped in for a naked smoothing and some berries and everything was fresh and pleasing to my belly. They have indoor and outdoor seating. I would definitely revisit and also recommend that if you haven't tried it out to go ahead and try it.

Carlino's never fails to hit a home run! As well as being a toy store for Italians with all kinds of hard-to-find gourmet specialties, they serve incredible lunches with indoor and outdoor seating. Just today I had a hot roast beef on semolina roll with roasted pepper and melted gorgonzola. Wow! I was in heaven!

Amazing Italian deli/market/specialty food store. Whether it is a sandwich, hoagie, cheese steak for lunch, butchered meats, fresh homemade pasta and cheeses for dinner, or a cake and cannolis for dessert, Carlino's has everything that you could want. They also put an emphasis on utilizing fresh and local produce, and carry a large assortment of specialty items.

    (5)
  • Erin R.

Carlino's is so much more than "specialty foods and catering". This is a proper gourmet market with amazing freshly-prepared sandwiches, pizzas, pastas and breakfasts. The prepared foods are incredible. They have a butcher who does hand-cut meats (including the best steak I've ever bought at any gourmet market). You can even buy pizza dough to make your own pies, which we do three or four times per month. The bakery is incredible. The cannoli are great, and the cakes are amazing. Best gourmet market in the Philly suburbs!

  • Henry T.

I really love Carlino's. Things like homemade Italian pasta dishes, excellent salads, well-crafted sandwiches, and delectable deserts make it a place that just beckons you back time and time again. Although a bit pricey, it's well worth it. The staff are all friendly and very helpful. However, not a place to come if you're on a budget, because literally everything looks so good. It takes some serious willpower to come in and leave with just one thing (trust me, I've tried).

  • Shayne T.

Try everything or anything it is all good. The cooks are super friendly and the atmosphere is fantastic. Carlino's is my favorite treat in West Chester.

Thank god this exists. Nothing else in WC even comes close to Carlinos. I strictly rely on Carlino's at lunch time. Never had any complaints. Nice, friendly staff (they always seem in a good mood), great food, so much variety and originality in that little place.
